I was waking up at 5 am to workout, going to my 9 to 5, heading to the studio to teach a class, and then finally going home to make dinner, go to bed, and wake up to do it all over agin. I was stuck in this constant state of boredom and living a dull routine that didn’t serve me. What the F was I doing? I felt like a robot, a servant to everyone else. I wasn’t living, I was just existing.

There are days when I wake up and think to myself “why am I here, what is my purpose?”  On those days, I might be feeling unimportant, like I don’t have a purpose. This only lasts a few moments because I remind myself to take a step back and practice self compassion. I tell myself to focus on my vision and remember why I decided to take this journey in the first place.  When we set goals, it comes from a place that hits home for us, even if we don’t completely understand them until we go below the surface. Our WHY is the purpose that drives each of us to reach our goals.  Finding clarity in your WHY will allow you to take the next steps to move forward with your vision of finding fulfillment. Everyone has a WHY, do you know yours?

Use these questions to find recurring ideas that trigger goals you would like to set for yourself: 

What were you passionate about as a child? 

If you didn’t have a job, how would you choose to spend your day?

What allows you to disconnect from the world?

What thoughts do you hold close to your heart?

What is the most rewarding thing you’ve done for someone else?  Why did this feel rewarding?

How would others describe your impact in their life?

What has been the hardest thing for you to overcome?

How do you want to be remembered?


Looking at your responses you might notice a theme that sparks an idea/goal to implement into your bigger picture. Now, we dig deeper into this goal and begin to understand why it is important.  This allows us to not only make our vision clear, but we can now continue to revisit and reflect on theses questions and answers when we may feel that we are losing focus, interest, or just are in need of a little reminder when we feel like there is no meaning.

Set Your Goal:

What is your goal?

Why is this goal important to you?


I want to  _________________ because ____________________.


Then, follow up with WHY this is important to you and repeat the process over and over until you have answered 5 times.  For example:

  • I want to live a healthier life because it makes me feel more energized.

  • Feeling more energized is important to me because I feel more productive.

  • Feeling productive is important to me because I can accomplish a lot to be successful.

  • Being successful is important to me because I want to be a strong leader that can support a family when I decide to settle down.

  • Being able to support a family is important to me because family has always been the highest of importance in my life.  To support, nurture and set a good example for my loved ones. 


Keep digging deeper by asking yourself “why is this important to me?”  As we continue to dig deeper, we peel back layers of ourselves that we may have never understood before.


It’s important to understand our WHY and the foundation within ourselves so that we can continue to move forward without disrupting the life you have built.  Creating a strong root for your foundation and being open to new possibilities is important so that you do not push opportunities away due to uncertainty of who you are in this life.


You are strong.  You are deserving.  You are worth every risk you take to better the life you are building for yourself and those around you.  When you are feeling like you’ve lost sight of your WHY, come back to this exercise for your reminder. You have a purpose.
