You are paid to workout?!  That’s amazing! Yes, yes it is.   However, I have to be so in tune with how I fuel and recover so I don’t hit the point of feeling overworked.  Have I mastered this? No, but I have found some amazing places to guide me in the right direction. College workouts were extremely intense.  From weight lifting to hitting the mile run test, we were challenged both physically and mentally. Post workout, we were required to soak in the ice bath so we could wake up and do it all over again.  Slightly kidding… but in reality, it was the best way for us to develop the strongest being we could become.  


“Recovery” is the time that the body adapts to stress and the effects from exercise.  In this stage, the body replenishes muscle glycogen (energy stores) and provides time for the body tissue to repair.  Think of it this way…when we workout we are pretty much tearing our muscles apart (weird, right?), then the recovery process brings the pieces back together and transforms it into bigger and stronger masses.


Recovery is a huge piece of maintaining the health of my body.  It’s an overall mindset and investment to stay in shape. We put our bodies through exercise, but the recovery is equally as important and often skipped.  You drive your car, take it in for inspection and repair, and fill it with gas when it is in need of fuel. Your body needs proper maintenance before you start walking around like the Tin Man. Your body is the most powerful vehicle you own.
